Cheers.

We were close against Holland but it should'nt have came down to the last game. We lost vital points on games we should have won eg Norway at home and the opening game at Macedonia. I don't like blaming and singling out players. We just did'nt cut it.

Bring on Poland/Ukraine 2012!!!

what a pant load that was, eh?
seriously, it was almost comical.

Two players were offside when the play started.
No call.

Henry touches it (guides it to his feet really!) with his hand.
No call.

Robbery, plain and simple. But its ok. France won't get too far in the cup tournament anyways. Just a shame that Keane is most likely done with World Cup play as the guy is, what, 35-ish?

too bad.

It's what I expected from France. They have no dignity, they don't deserve to be in the world cup, I don't think they even deserve to call themselves world cup winners as the Brazil they played in 98 were all confused with the Ronaldo fiasco.

I almost (note ALMOST) want them to win it, then maybe we will finally get video replays for these crucial decisions, as how bad will it look if a team that cheated to get to the finals win it.

Keane's 29, still got at least one more world cup campaign in him. The hand ball situation sucks for Ireland but from what I've heard they should have put the game to bed in normal time with both Keane and Duff missing glorious opportunities.

Being a Spurs man I feel sorry for Keane missing out tho, apart from the Liverpool fiasco he is a model proffesional and top player who deserves to play at the world cup imo.

So wait, the referees that watch over the football games aren't even independent?

Yeah they are independent, well as independent as can be. Unfortunately like all human beings they are influenced by reputations, pressure from above and another hundred factors.

Personally i can't imagine why anyone would want the job, as it really is a thankless task.

The best suggestion i can come up with is, if there is any debate on the legitimacy of a goal then a video referee should look at all the footage while the game is still being played and if it's obviously an illegal goal, as in the France Ireland game, then the goal should be taken away and play just continues on. This should only take a video ref 2 mins at the most, this way play is not interrupted and tough goal deciding decisions will be made alot easier for the poor ref's on the pitch.

Good idea in theory, but who gets to draw the line in the sand an say THIS is acceptable and THAT is not?

And to just play the game while a video judge makes a decision? well, I know that my team plays very differently if we're tied 1-1 or if we're down 2-1. I can't imagine any team would be much different than this.

Anyways, its all for nothing. France's team doesn't deserve to be there (not this way at least.....perhaps they would've won anyways, but we'll never know) and given some of the quality teams going to Africa, i don't think we'll have to wait too long until the French team is back in France.

It would have to be clear cut infringement, just like the French goal was, if there no obvious answer then the goal must stand. You only have to look at cricket which uses a video ref for tough decisions, it's become a crowd favourite as they wait the answer and that never takes very long at all, granted the game stops for this but i still think football could carry on, if it was in injury time then the game carrys on until the decision is made, which again shouldn't be very long.

Just my thoughts on it really, personally i think it could work, will they ever bring anything like it into the game, i think eventually yes, imagine if that had been the world cup final and the winning goal was scored that way, something would be implemented within weeks i bet.

It's a good time to be a Spurs supporter right now. We're finally picking up results against teams that on paper we should do. Just been looking at the league table and was quite amazed at our defensive record, second only to Man U. Scoring has never really been a big problem and now we seem to be able to defend the signs are good. Really hope we can hang onto 4th place, who knows if the Gooners continue to slip up and we beat them at The Lane 3rd place could be ours. Not forgetting the FA cup semi final coming up, and getting to the semi's of the League Cup it's definatly one of the best seasons in recent memory.

On the flip side of your 'doing much better' coin is my team Liverpool 'doing much worse'. To be blunt we can't seem to get it right anywere on the pitch this season. Mainly due to Gerrard not being his all conquering self and Torres's injury blighted season (PS. whata goal against Sunderland). The biggest reason though is simple Benitez his stupid zonal marking system, negative tactics, and the inability to let his best players play a full bloody game, among a few other tactical problems. Then there is the 'guarantee fourth place' quote, was there ever a more stupid thing said by a top level football manager!?!

I could rant on and on but i think any football fan can see the problems we have had this season.

Inconsistent comes to mind. I really don't understand the situation with Aquilani though, such a waste.

Today Canada was shocked to read the following news headline: "Toronto FC's roster overhaul continues as the team announced Tuesday that it has signed goalkeeper Milos Kocic". It was not the fact that Toronto FC signed the young goalkeep, but the fact that a newspaper even bothered to print a soccer article nearing the hockey playoffs.

PS/ at least soccer is not cricket

Cricket is indeed one of the most boring sports I can think of.

There really are no words that can describe just how good Messi is. I must have watched pretty much every Barcelona game over the last couple of years and he just keeps on getting better and better. If anyone had any doubts of his quality then his 4 goal performance against Arsenal last night must surely put rest to them.

4 goals to his name already. He must be nearing the top of the all-time goal scorers list in soccer
